How Do People Get caught?

There are many things that can happen from using and falling behind on payday loans. In order to understand all that can go wrong let’s take a look at the whole picture, from beginning to end.

When you first take out one of these loans you are already on your way to failure if anything should go wrong with your first and what should be your only payment.

What most companies work around is letting you know the best and really the only safe way to take out a payday loan is to pay it off in full on your first due date, period!

If you do not do this you will immediately be setting yourself up for the payday loan trap.

As you can see by reading the above story from CBS Money Watch that 80% of all borrowers get caught in this trap.

That is an incredible failure rate on the customers or is it?

People fail simply because they extend their loan or borrow just what they can pay back with no wiggle room and then something else comes up.

Both these situations lead to extending the loan, which is like interest murder on you, or you end up taking out another loan to make the first loans payments.

It can get very ugly very fast, and before you know it you are behind on several loans, your bank account is getting bounced and your interest on the loans is compounding daily at an insane percentage.

You are now stuck in the payday loan trap.

Maybe we finally have the president on the same page and willing to do something about these companies.

  1. Payday Loan is one of the biggest scams out there. They target low income families that know very well, that they are unable to make the payments in the allocated time frame. Upon not being able to make the payments, they are immediately hit with an absurd amount of interest. Interest being well over 500%!

I’ve never had the experience of being trapped in any payday loans. However, I do hear a lot of stories. How people would take out an additional pay day loan to pay for another. That creates a vicious cycle which makes the person feel like they will never get out.

Anyway, great article. Thanks for sharing!

  2. Many years ago I applied for a payday loan. Luckily I was in a position to pay it off within days and never fell down that trap. I had been considering taking out a loan. I’m glad to have seen this to really understand it will likely only bring more financial damage. Thank you. I will need to consider some alternatives.

  4. I’ve never taken out a payday loan and after reading your article never will. I can understand how people have problems paying off a payday loan debt, it seems an easy trap to fall into. Do you think there’ll ever be any legislation brought out to curb these payday loan companies?

    1. Hi Kathy!
Yes, there already is in New York and it is pretty stiff. I believe there are 5 states now where they are illegal but the online companies just ignore the laws. Most are based out of the country so they can get away with it.
Thanks for stopping by and I love that you will never take one of these loans upt, good for you!

  6. Up till about 2 years ago I kept up with the news. And it seemed that then there was a lot of controversy over these payday loans. Hopefully with the new regulations in place we might see an end in sight some time in the near future.
I myself know a number of people that have gotten 2-4 different loans to try and pay the originals off as you have said in your post. And your right thy used to complain that the harassment was very extreme.
I’m glad to see that you have provide a solution for those who have fallen victim to these payday loan scams. And urge anyone that needs help to do it now.

Thanks for being the light on the hill.

  7. I’ve never really understood the idea of a payday loan.. who would over budge for something they can’t afford? Whenever I get a payment, I save over half of it, and have been since a child! If I was loaning money, I wouldn’t feel sorry for someone else if they couldn’t meet the terms and conditions. Bad habits will result in bad outcomes, and if you can’t handle it, don’t create bad habits!

    1. Hi Matt,
I do have to agree with you on the being responsible part, but the lengths these guys go to are unacceptable.
      Thanks for stopping by!

  8. Wow – I have heard of a PayDay Loan but never really knew what it was! Until now.

… absolutely disgusted with what I have just learned.
The fact that it appears to be coming for the most part by Indian Tribal Nations is even more disturbing. I know Native Americans probably feel they are still owed for all the wrongs that were done to them, but the times and circumstances have changed since the 1800’s for sure.

There should be NO loans of this nature PERIOD – by anyone!
That is Greed on a massive scale.

Just goes to show you how desperate people can become – NEVER go that way.

For $250 it would have been better to pay with a credit card.

THESE PEOPLE SHOULD BE IN JAIL

    1. Hi and thanks for stopping by!
Yes, I agree they should be in jail. It is a shame that people are getting taken to the cleaners because they find themselves in a tough spot.
If we keep educating people maybe we can turn a corner on this!
